Author management

Zita Holbourne FRSA is a multi-award winning multidisciplinary artist, author, writer, educator, community activist, equality and human rights campaigner and trade union leader. Her socially engaged creative practice includes work as an author and writer, visual artist, performance poet / spoken word artist, vocalist and curator. She has exhibited art, performed, done readings and spoken around the globe, from Glastonbury to the Kenyan National Theatre, Trafalgar Square to Tate Modern. She is the author of the book of poetry, Striving for Equality Freedom and Justice, (Handib Publications), Zita A Life of Activism, ( Aurora Metro Books) co-author of Roots and Rebellion for which she won the Jessica Kingsley Writing Prize and has contributed to over forty books including New Daughters of Africa. She is one of 17 British women featured in the award winning book, Here We Stand, Women Changing the World. Zita is currently working on a new book about the experience of children of the Windrush Generation, growing up as second generation in 1970s and 80s Britain ( Lived Places Publishing). Zita is part of UNESCO Coalition of Artists for the General History of Africa and founded / curated the TUC Roots Culture Identity art exhibition in memory of Stephen Lawrence from 2013 -23. Her art has featured in exhibitions around the world. She has art in the Laurie Bieze permanent collection at the Pablo Center at the Confluence, Wisconsin, US. Her large scale globe sculptures commissioned by The World Reimagined, are permanently located at The Black Cultural Archives in London and at St Paul's Learning Centre in Bristol. She is the the joint chair of Artists' Union England and Co-Chair of Public Services International Education Support and Culture Sector Workers Network, on behalf of whom she authored A Manifesto for Cultural Workers. Zita is the co-founder and National Chair of Black Activists Rising Against Cuts (BARAC) UK a grassroots community org campaigning against racism and injustice through an intersectional lens. Zita has co-founded numerous Justice and Equal Rights groups. She played an instrumental role in exposing and continues to campaign against the Hone Ofgice (Windrush) Scandal. Education is key to her practice and she regularly facilitates creative writing, performance, drama, poetry and visual art workshops for children and adults and has worked as a mentor, coach, facilitator and advisor for Writing Our Legacy for several years. As a disability rights campaigner, Zita is a member of the Mayor of London’s Liberty Advisory Group. Zita is a honorary fellow of the University of Wales Trinity St David and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In 2026 Zita was listed in the 100 Top Influential People, 30 World Women Leaders to Watch and won a Literary Trailblazers Award. Other awards include the Global Diversity List 100 - Inspirational Role Model, Caribbean Global Awards, Outstanding Global Arts and Culture Award plus Best Global Community Influencer, Olive Morris Award, National Diversity Awards Positive Role Model for Race, Ethnicity Awards List 100, Legacy Awards lifetime achievement award, BLAC Awards Honours of Distinction, Black Teachers Award, 100 Black Women Who Have Made a Mark. Zita campaigns for Equality Freedom Justice and Rights through Arts and Actvism.
